Living the Christian Life

Gordon Robertson presents a teaching on living the Christian life and the importance of  obedience with a look at Philippians chapter 2.

Scriptures: Philippians 2:12-16 (NKJV)
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.  Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

  1. Thank you so very much. That was amazing. Your words are very helpful. One time when I was encouraging my husband he felt I I was stroking his ego. How mad I was. I stop encouraging him altogether. That was embedded in my brain. I realize that if I just let God shine through I won’t be giving my husband a bigger head – simply God’s love. Live by example. Thank you

  2. Dear CBN! Thank You this living words from God!
My experiance was similary. We need patience for the people who walk not enough or still not in the truth of God.While I praised God , lot of people saw me what I do. but I am not shame it. Iwas little bit agry why look at me!Now I know that I must learn the patience toward unbeliever people.
    Thank You! God bless You!
( I am from Hungary .Excuse me lingual mistakes!I speak little bit english.Thank You!)

  3. There is no word in the english Language that depresses me more than the word ‘Obedient’. The only human that lived an obedient life is Jesus. Jesus did not sin, He kept all of the Mosaic Laws that applied to him.

As for me, I sin continually, as does every other human being. There is no Human, not even one, who is truly obedient, except for Jesus.

    This is what I believe:

1 John:5 – 10: This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 IF WE SAY THAT WE HAVE NOT SINNED, WE MAKE HIM A LIAR AND HIS WORD IS NOT IN US.

Is not sin disobedience? Is this not what you mean by obedience – TO NOT SIN? And in my experience, the harder I tried to be obedient to Laws (sinless), the more sinful I became (disobedient), my focus was on sin continually, and sin consumed me. For people tend to go where their focus is, what they are thinking about or looking at. As a child learning to ride a bicycle, I constantly drove the bike into telephone poles and into parked cars, because I was so fearful of hitting them, and in fear, I stared at them, and where I looked is where the Bike went. All motorcyclists know about this fact. Even drivers of cars experience this This is why police, when they pull over a motorist over on a highway and ask them to get out of the car, and also tell them to get away from their car, because some nosey passerby’s start looking at the car and police car, and carelessly drive their car into the car that was pulled over.

And that is what the Mosaic Laws did to those under it via its’ 613 laws. These laws continually set the minds of the people of the Exodus on sin continously, and sin increased. This is why Paul said that the Mosaic Law was useless and worthless in that it could never save anyone. It locked us under sin until Jesus came.

My obedience is not that I stopped sinning because I love God and decided never to sin again. If I have any obedience at all, it is that I believe God, that the blood of His only begotten Son, our Messiah, The Lamb of God, took upon His-self, all of my sins (acts of disobedience) past, present, and future. He removed me from Sin and Death.

When Jesus died on the cross, God annihilated the Mosaic Law. Zechariah 11: 7-13. (Zechariah 11: 1-6 prophesied the destruction of Herods Temple, and [Zechariah 12 details events of the end of Diaspora of the Jews as they began returning to their Land, Israel.]

Upon His ressurection, ‘God revealed the positive Laws of the New Covenant with New positive Laws of Jesus Christ.”

THE ROYAL LAW OF LOVE “Love God with all our Heart, Mind, strength and Soul – and love your neighbor as much as we love ourselves.” And we all love ourselves very much.

    2. THE LAW OF LIBERTY: Mercy Triumphs over Judgement. By the standards we measure others, so shall we be measured. Forgive others who sin against us, and we will be forgiven of our sins. Bless those who persecute us.

    3. The Law of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, [weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. 10 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit ]alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Upon these are the Laws of Jesus Christ I LIVE. Laws by which God saves me from, delivering me the law of Sin, and I love Him very much for doing so. and Death.

The Holy Spirit dwells in me, and day by day He transforms me, workings all things in my life for the good. I am so grateful for this Gift from God to me. The Blood of Jesus Christ that God has already forgiven me all my sins – past, present, and future.

He tells me words of love, Every Day these words,
And this does something to me.

He has entered my heart, With a happiness,
Of which I know the cause,

It’s Him for me, and me for Him, in my life,
He tells me this, everyday, of my life,

    And these things become apparent,
    Then I sense in me,
    my beating heart.

I thought that love was just a word
They sang about in songs I heard
It took your death to reveal
That I was wrong and love is real
