God promises that if we will trust and acknowledge Him, He will lead us. As we seek God and wait on Him, we will find Him and He will direct our paths (Matthew 6:33,7:7-8, Proverbs 3:5-6).

One of the primary ways the Lord guides us is through His Holy Word, the Bible. Reading and studying the Bible will build faith. Furthermore, it becomes the tool that offers you the guidance you need in order to conduct your life. As we read the Bible and think about what God says there, we will develop understanding and wisdom.

Take time each day for fellowship with the Lord. When we make God a priority in our day, we begin to know His character and His ways. Time spent alone with God will help develop spiritual maturity and ability to discern His guidance for our lives.

Trusting in the Lord with all your heart is the key to receiving God's wisdom and guidance. As you begin to trust Him in each facet of your life, you will establish Him as the Lord of your life. When He becomes Lord of your life, you will pursue His plan and His ways, rather than your own ideas. Proverbs 3:5,6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths." There is nothing that can be added to these verses to enlarge the truth of it. When it comes to knowing what God wants, this is the action to take.

Finally, whenever you are deciding on a course of action, you should have the peace of the Holy Spirit in your heart before you proceed. God uses His Spirit to guide us in the direction He wants us to go and to steer us away from circumstances and actions that could do us harm. In a sense, the peace of God is like a guidance system. Colossians 3:15a says, "Let the peace of God rule your hearts and minds." That peace, or the absence of it, will point you in the right direction.

As you seek God's will in any situation, take time to listen to God through reading your Bible and allowing His peace to reside in your heart and in your mind. If you make the wrong decision, your peace will be disrupted, and all you have to do is to repent and move in the other direction. Expect God to direct you and He will.
