I have used it to make biscuits. You can usually find it in the organic department of the grocery store. Spectrum is the brand I have used. It came in a tub and a jar.

My doctor says not to stop using olive and canola oil, but that it's okay to use coconut oil also.

I suggest not using the microwave to melt it - as that zaps nutrients from foods & this oil is a bit pricy for that.....I let (some of) mine sit somewhere warm & it melts naturally. I like it on crackers instead of butter or cheese - tasty! Health foods stores primarily carry it & some grocery stores but make sure it's good quality. I watch for sales.

Please do more stories about people with Alzheimers. As you said, there are many of us out here caring for our loved ones with the disease. We appreciate any help we can get. There is so little of it.

Thanks for your posts. Our CBN medical reporter, Lorie Johnson, suggests starting off with about 2 tablespoons a day and increase gradually to 6 tablespoons a day. It's a great idea to REPLACE ALL OILS in regular cooking and baking (just melt it in the microwave if it needs to be liquid) with the tasteless, odorless kind of coconut oil, such as LouAna, which you can purchase from the oil section of the grocery store and costs about four dollars. Please visit Dr. Newport's website and/or read her book. Both very informative and easy to understand. Dr. Newport's website: http://www.coconutketones.com/

I bought some at the farmer's market. It was solid like crisco when I first bought it. I used one tablespoon a day. It did help a little. I guess I need to larger dose as suggested above. However, after a while the oil turned liquid. Is it still okay to use? SHould I keep it refrigerated it? How long does it last? It is supposed to be liquid or solid?
