How much Coconut Oil do you need to ingest to see benefits? Also, would taking the Coconut Oil capsules be just as good? If so, how many should you take?

Spectrum organic expeller pressed coconut oil can be found at Stop and Shop, Whole Foods or any health food store....
It's a medium heat oil so I wouldn't use in the micro wave. Micro waving removes nutrients of foods.

Tropical Traditions is an excellent source for coconut oil, and the Christian owner also has his testimony and ministry on the website. Many other testimonials about their products can also be found on their website. Just go to Tropical

I moisturize my face with coconut oil every night. It is silky soft and goes smoothly on my skin. Also good on the hands, elbows, and feet. I read on the jar it also is good for the hair, but have not tried that.

@ annie: Regarding Blood Sugar and Coconut oil, below is an excerpt from Dr. Mary Newport's website,

"WHO SHOULD TRY THIS? People who have a neurodegenerative disease that involves decreased glucose uptake in neurons could benefit from taking higher amounts of coconut and/or MCT oil to produce ketones which may be used by brain cells as energy. These diseases include Alzheimer’s and other dementias, Parkinson’s, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s), multiple sclerosis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, autism, Down’s syndrome, and Huntington’s chorea. Ketones can also serve as an alternative fuel for other cells in the body that are insulin resistant or cannot transport glucose, and could potentially lessen the effects of diabetes I or II on the brain and other organs. If you are at risk due to family history, you consider making this dietary change as well. If your loved one is in assisted living, the doctor may be willing to prescribe coconut oil to be given at each meal, increasing gradually."

@jac: According to CBN's Fact Sheet: "Coconut milk is a combination of the oil and the water from the coconut and most of the calories are from
the oil. Look for brands with 10 to 13 grams of fat in 2 ounces. Look in the grocery store’s Asian section. Some brands are less expensive but are diluted with water."

@Cjrmay20 and Janet0605: Please download our Fact Sheet for more information and visit this informative link:

"Dr. Newport adds, 'Using coconut oil capsules is not an efficient way to give the oil since the capsules are relatively expensive and contain only 1 gram of oil per capsule, whereas the oil is 14 grams per tablespoon.' ”

Thanks for your posts.
Our CBN medical reporter, Lorie Johnson, suggests starting off with about 2 tablespoons a day and increase gradually to 6 tablespoons a day. It's a great idea to REPLACE ALL OILS in regular cooking and baking (just melt it in the microwave if it needs to be liquid) with the tasteless, odorless kind of coconut oil, such as LouAna, which you can purchase from the oil section of the grocery store and costs about four dollars. Please visit Dr. Newport's website and/or read her book. Both very informative and easy to understand. Dr. Newport's website:

The coconut oil, Louanna brand in the video, is available at my Walmart. I use that when cooking savory foods as it has no smell or taste. I buy an expensive brand at the health food store that smells and tastes like coconut from my health food store. I use that with recipes that have fruit in them, like a dressing with basalmic vinegar over a tossed salad with strawberries or apples or oranges and walnuts, or baked apples, or brown rice destined for rice pudding.

Pure coconut oil can be purchased at your local health food store. Organic is best. I've cooked with it & what is interesting about that is that it doesn't cause the food such as stir fry veggies to taste like coconut. I've also eaten spoonfuls of it right out of the jar. It is delicious & I could taste a coconut flavor. I knew it was healthy, but I didn't know about all of these wonderful benefits. Thanks, CBN.

I am from the tropics and for years, our coconut oil exports have been affected by socalled studies conducted by the West. Today, you have come one big circle to appreciate what our forefathers have been using for centuries without any ill effects - coconut oil.
My suggestion is to make your own coconut oil. It is best. You can find many videos on Youtube on how to make it - by boiling coconut milk and turning it into oil. This is best coconut oil as this is what we in the Tropics have done.
I am sharing this because there is the Internet this day. Take coconut oil and you will be amazed in three weeks when your life turns around.
If you are in the West, you have been unfairly informed by your own industries and people with their own interests. Today you have been blessed with the Internet. Hope you will now see Coconut oil in different light.

In a Jun 4, 2012 at 9:17 pm post "Nonnie" said, "I am one of two Distributors in the US. I will ship anywhere." How do I contact "Nonnie" about ordering?

Tim Ault Jun 20, 2012 at 9:39 pm Flag as inappropriate

I am one of two Distributors in the US. I will ship anywhere. My line is from the Philippines, and it is not only cold pressed, it is Cold Processed. This is why it is better. My brand is 100% Virgin Coconut Oil. Santa Maria is the name and the company is one of 4 that are still using the cold processs. All the others went to the heat process, which kills the antioxidants, that are good for your body. You only need 1 tsp twice a day. I also massage it on my face and neck and arms. It is also a natural sun blocker. It is amazing. Coconut oil if processed correctly is the best way to go. You will be amazed at how much better you are going to feel, even your mind will see the difference.. Leona

Fish oil, and purple grapes will also prevent strokes, are good for your skin, and the fish oil is good for arthritis.

I read and saw the video on coconut oil. I am using all natural, non-hydrogenated coconut oil from, which is run by Judy Lindberg McFarland, a Born Again nutritionist. I also read that high doses of fish oil will prevent Alzheimer's or improve your memory.

I treated Alzheimer's patients for many years before my retirement, and came to believe that the current scientific orthodoxy on the cause of Alzheimer's may not be correct. I was very interested several years ago when the "diabetes of the brain" hypothesis emerged, but had my doubts for the reasons very clearly and ably described by Nutritionist. I believe that it is possible, even likely, that ketones might be able to optimize the functionality of remaining neurons in Alzheimer's patients, but doubt that they can do anything to arrest the underlying progression of the disease. Over the years I came to believe that Alzheimer's has a viral origin, and following my retirement I published a brief paper describing an alternative approach to the prevention (and possibly the treatment) of the disease. Anyone interested can obtain a free download of the paper at
