i have a nine month old mini pin and his barking is driving me crazy. i am in a wheelchair and he is a great emotional help to me, but the barking is starting to upset my neighbors as well as i. i thought about the dreaded shock collar, but he is only about a pound and a half and they have nothing for small dogs. he sleeps with me at night after the cat, a maincoon pure bred, and much bigger than the dog, but he lets him gnaw on him until he gets tired of it and bits him back. that just makes the dog mad, when he was originally playing, and starts his gnawing harder. i get them calmed down and we go to bed (it is usually night time). i need to find a way to train him to not bark all the time. i have tried letting him bark once and then explain to him that it is outside and will not hurt us. then i give him a little biscuit. that is not working. help
We rescued a Chocolate Lab about 6 years ago. He is a great dog. We have never had to worry about food on the counter or the garbage being tipped over and dug through. But the past 3 months we have wondered where our good doggy has gone. He usually does this a night when we are in bed or gone. We now have a gate up so he can't get to the kitchen. Just in case we forget to put the garbage in the closet or leave something on the counter. We also have found him sleeping on the couch or our bed, he did not have that problem either until one of our adult children let him up on the couch and now if we are not looking he will get on it. So we have been laying books or boxes on the couch and shutting our bedroom door if we are gone. Any suggestions on how to fix these behavior issues?
I am a beahviorist, and times have been very difficult for me, too. While I have trouble supporting the ministry with a cash donation, on any regualr basisI can offer my services to help pro bono to someone who needs training advice(but can't afford to pay) for their dog, as a way of helping people, and doing the Lord's work. Hello, I am NEW to mycbn, I read your fact sheet for dogs, loved it! I have 7 year old male AKC, UKC., German shepherd dog named "Alpha". He is a well trained guard dog. (And great friend)....I liked your thoughts on keeping your dogs teeth clean...I began cleaning Alphas teeth as a pup and to this day he likes having them done. Start while they are young and it is great. Plus, I love how you say to clean/bathe your dog often...I have also done this for years... Great stuff doc! My Alpha has spin and a hip problem which I give him S.O.D. & Boswellia, plus vitamins ect, glucosamine, chondrotin & MSM and fish oil and Wellness dog food for seinors. Is this good? God Bless.......
I have an Akita, they are known for fighting and because of that I try to have him around dogs when he was younger but it always turned out bad. I hat two dogs attack him and now he is older and I am unsure how he would really act with other dogs. I know at least one small dog he is good with but I am unsure with the rest. He does have leash aggression when he sees other dogs. Just today he ran out the house to see a little dog, whether he was attacking it or just looking to play I dont know. All I know is the owner of the dog was knocked down and very upset. I dont think my dog was trying to hurt the dog, I think if he was being as big as he is he would have. Times are hard and money at the moment is scarse so I cant afford any kind of training. What can I do, I dont want him to do that again, it can cost me to many problems. I was thinking of getting him a muzzel and taking him to the dog park but I am not sure if this will make things better or worse. I need help and pray I love my dog and I dont want to ever give him up until God takes him from me.
