Description:

The solution to the question of what gates, in their literal sense, signify can be found in one of the other replies. The response is the same for either question regarding the significance of a gate in modern times. The spiritual sense of a gate, on the other hand, is a place of access that is restricted in some way. It is meant to be a representation of Christ's role as the gateway into the presence of God. We are allowed entrance into the presence of God the Father because we have faith in the blood that Jesus Christ shed for us.

There are many gateways described in the Bible. However, when Christ declared, "I am the door (or gate)," the gate to which He was referring was the gate that was located in the tabernacle described in the Old Testament. In the Most Holy Place of the Tabernacle, between the cherubim and the mercy seat, God's presence dwelt. This was known as the Holy of Holies. When a sinner or an offering brought their sacrifice to the tabernacle, they were required to enter the structure through the gate (singular), and then they were to give their lamb. Christ also remarked, "narrow is the gate and few there be that find it, that leadeth unto life," and "therefore enter through the narrow gate." [Cross reference:] Christ was the one speaking here. But that route is not the way of God. rather, it is the broad way that "seemeth right unto a man, but it's end is destruction." Man has always tried to enter in via another method, through good acts or philanthropy, but that way is not the way of God. Christ is our only hope since we owe our own existence to God.

There is no other path. The Bible says that "the wages of sin is death," and we owe it to God that we die. This is the reason why Christ gave his life for us. Through His dying, we get access. He then went on to proclaim, "I AM THE DOOR," which can also be translated as "gate," and by this, He indicated the entrance to the tabernacle. To put it another way, the gate serves as the point of access into the presence of God and, thus, Heaven. Christ is the doorway and the one and only route to enter, as all other ways are blocked by a wall. He is the gate. To put it another way, this is the significance of gates.
